SHIZUOKA GAS CO., LTD. (President and CEO: Hiroyuki Kishida) will introduce environment-friendly carbon-neutral liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the first time. The LNG shipment is scheduled to arrive at the Sodeshi LNG Terminal operated by SHIMIZU LNG Co., Ltd., a Shizuoka Gas group company, in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on September 4, 2021.

The carbon footprint of the LNG shipment was offset by INPEX CORPORATION (Representative Director, President & CEO: Takayuki Ueda) using carbon credits applied to greenhouse gas emissions across the Project’s entire natural gas supply chain including upstream production, liquefaction, transportation, regasification, marketing and combustion by customers in Japan. The carbon credits used to offset the shipment’s carbon footprint meet the Verified Carbon Standard deriving from greenhouse gas reduction efforts at global forest conservation projects, etc. Shizuoka Gas will purchase a carbon-neutral LNG shipment of approximately 70 thousand tons and start to provide carbon-neutral city gas to the customers in response to requests from them.

Shizuoka Gas has supported the efforts of the local community for achieving the low carbon society through the widespread use of natural gas and the promotion of intensive use of energy since 1990s. In the meantime, "Carbon Neutral Vision 2050" publicly announced in August 2021 showed that Shizuoka Gas would realize a decarbonized society in 2050 through the utilization of new technologies such as carbon-neutral methane and hydrogen, the development of renewable energy and the carbon dioxide capture including forest preservation.

Shizuoka Gas is committed to continued contribution to the invigoration and sustainable growth of local community.
