SHIZUOKA GAS CO., LTD. (Hiroyuki Kishida, representative director and president) has reached a basic agreement to invest in and form a business alliance with IRM Energy Private Limited, which operates a natural gas supply business in India. This foray into the Indian market will mark the fourth country, in addition to Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, to which Shizuoka Gas has expanded its businesses overseas.
The IRM Energy operates natural gas supply business to customers mainly in transportation (Compressed Natural Gas Station), household and industrial segments which covers 3 geographical areas in 2 states namely Gujarat and Punjab. Shizuoka Gas will leverage its knowledge of energy conservation and advanced utilization methods to develop demand for industrial-use city gas. The IRM Energy intends to its supply area in the future.
India is expanding its use of natural gas to meet the increasing demand associated with economic growth, air pollution and low carbon emissions. The country has introduced a policy to increase the share of natural gas in primary energy consumption to 15% by 2030 as one measure in response to rising needs for clean energy.
In the ”2050 Carbon Neutral Vision” announced in August 2021, Shizuoka Gas indicated its policy to shift to natural gas and promote renewable energy overseas. The Company will continue to support the creation of decarbonized societies in Japan and overseas, contributing to the development of local communities.
